PROJECT STORY
The French cruiser in the wildest camouflage of the war, struck in antique brass. Made with naval encyclopedia.
How it works: reserve yours for $1 today. If 100 backers join by November 18, we make it and charge the rest, $24. If we don't reach 100, your $1 comes back automatically.
Gloire was a La Galissonniere-class light cruiser, launched in 1935 and in service in November 1937, with nine 152 mm guns in three triple turrets.
In September 1940 she was stopped on her way to Dakar by HMAS Australia and HMS Cumberland and sent back to Casablanca. In September 1942 she picked up survivors of the sunk liner Laconia.
After she joined the Allies she was refitted in the United States in 1943. Before she left New York she was painted in an experimental zebra dazzle her crew nicknamed the "railway accident". In it she supported the landings at Anzio and in Provence in 1944.
Front: Gloire as US Navy photographers saw her off New York on 16 November 1943, with the dazzle simplified so it can be struck in metal: the dark bands are sunk and toned, the light bands polished.
Back: the naval encyclopedia logo, for the readers of naval-encyclopedia.com.
Spec: 45 mm, die-struck brass, antique finish, sculpted relief both sides, in a clear capsule. Silver and gold upgrades available.
Images are design renders, not photos of the struck coin.
