Three generations of one family, carved into the steel of the USS Texas.

1912: Stanislaw Kowalski, coal passer. The ship runs aground on Block Island. That night, he takes a knife below decks and carves KOWALSKI into a blind bulkhead where the officers won't see it.

1944: Frank Kowalski, gunner. D-Day. He fires 255 shells at Pointe du Hoc in 34 blistering minutes. Afterward, he goes below with that same knife and cuts his name right beneath his father’s.

Today: Mike Kowalski, 28, World of Warships player. A clan-chat ping links him to a dry dock livestream. There, in the exposed steel, he spots a name that matches his own. He flies out to Galveston. Finds both of them. Adds the third.
